Article 4 of 4 | The Victorious Church | Matthew 16:18 & Revelation 22:17

We've traced the promise Jesus made about His church. The foundation is unshakeable. The builder is sovereign and skilled. The victory is guaranteed. Now comes the question that matters most to you personally: will you be part of it?
An Invitation Extended
Listen to how Revelation 22:17 closes the biblical story:
"And the Spirit and the bride say, 'Come!' And let him who hears say, 'Come!' And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely."
That's the voice of the church, the bride of Christ, calling out to everyone who hears. Come. Join us. Be part of what God is building. Taste the water of life that will never run dry.
But here's what you need to understand: that invitation only makes sense if you first understand what you're being invited into. And what you're being invited into is not a social club or a community program. You're being invited to surrender your life to a Person.
What It Means to Join
When Peter confessed, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God," he was confessing something that cost him everything. And it cost Christ everything to make that confession true. Jesus didn't become the Messiah through good intentions or personal achievement. He became the Messiah by stepping into the place of judgment that belonged to sinners like us. He died. He paid a debt He didn't owe to save people like us who owed a debt we couldn't pay.
That's the gospel. And if you want to be part of the church Jesus is building, you begin by acknowledging that you need what Christ provided. You're a sinner. You've broken God's law. You deserve judgment. And Christ took your judgment on the cross.
Then you turn from your sin. You surrender to Him as Lord. You believe that He rose from the dead and that His work is sufficient. You commit to following Him, not as an optional spiritual hobby, but as the center of your life.
When you do that, you don't just get your sins forgiven. You join the victorious church. You become a living stone in the structure God is building. You become part of a community that will reign with Christ for all eternity.
An Invitation for Those Already In
But if you're already a believer, already part of the church, there's still an invitation here for you. It's an invitation to live like you actually believe this. To stop hedging your bets between allegiance to Christ and allegiance to the things of this world. To recognize that you're part of something bigger than your own circumstances or comfort.
The gates of Hades cannot prevail. That means you don't have to live in fear. The builder knows what He's doing. That means you can trust Him even when His placement of you is painful. The foundation is unshakeable. That means you can stand firm when the world tells you that nothing is solid.
Live like a person who belongs to the victorious church. Give yourself wholly to Christ. Commit yourself to the local congregation where you worship. Serve the community of believers around you. Reach out to those who are still outside and invite them in.
The Time Is Now
I won't minimize the challenges. The world around us is growing darker. Hostility toward the church is increasing. The pressure to compromise is real. But here's what's also true: the opportunity is now. Revelation 22:17 speaks as if this is urgent. The invitation is still open. The water of life is still flowing freely.
Don't put this off. If you know you're not yet part of Christ's church, don't wait. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Eternity is.
And if you are part of the church, live now as though you actually believe that the gates of Hades cannot prevail. Stop worrying about the future like you don't know how the story ends. You do. Christ wins. His church will triumph. The question is: will you live now as though you're part of that victory?
Application & Reflection
If you're not yet a follower of Christ, the invitation of Revelation 22:17 is for you. Come. Repent of your sin. Believe that Jesus is the Christ and that His death paid for your sins. Surrender to Him as Lord. Ask Him to make you part of His victorious church.
If you are a believer, ask yourself: Am I living as someone who is part of the victorious church? Or am I still hedging my bets? Make a commitment this week to live fully for Christ.

- If you are a believer, in what area of your life are you not fully trusting that the church is victorious?
